Background & Education

Hilary DeWeerdI am a licensed clinical social worker, and have a Bachelors of Applied Arts and Sciences in Rehabilitation from the University of North Texas. My rehabilitation background consisted of teaching and vocational rehabilitation of multiply disabled and blind/visually impaired clients.

I have a Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. At U.T., I specialized in Gerontology. I worked as a gerontologist for three years, providing long-term therapy, case management, and advocacy for my elderly clients and their families.

Therapy Experience

In 1989, I began working as a therapist/consultant at Magellan Behavioral Health Services, which is an Employee Assistance Program. An EAP offers short-term psychotherapy as well as referral to longer term therapy, if needed, for employees of companies and their household members. As an EAP therapist and consultant, I gained valuable experience and education in the areas of:

  • Brief solution-focused therapy
  • Working with a variety of clients
  • Chemical dependency issues in the workplace
  • Workplace issues

In September, 2003, I began a private practice, DeWeerd Psychotherapy. I continue to provide EAP services in addition to longer-term therapy, which is usually covered by insurance benefits. I also accept fee-for-service clients at $90/hour.
